This could be one of the earliest advertisements for absinthe in the USA (transcribed below). It was taken from the New York Mercantile Advertiser dated March 6, 1805. It is as follows:
Mrs. Chassevent (late widow APM-Houie) and Sabastian Crojant, to well known by the superiority of their Cordials, that this method of informing the public, that they have lately established a deposit of the same at Messrs. V. DuPont de Nenoure & Co. where their Cordials may be had on the same terms as at Martinique, duties and expenses of importation excepted.
They also give this Public Notice, that whatever Cordials have been hitherto sold in this City, were not of their manufacture, as they have never before sold any. The name of their Cordials are:
Cream of Barbades,
Noyean,
Fincorange
Mirobolinty,
Anniseed,
Cantil, *unreadable
Absythe,
Creaole,
Canle,
Heaome Humaine,
Giroffe, *unreadable
and Vanille
Those person who wish to purchase only a few bottles may find some at Mr. Dasvrioiur's (unreadable) 102 Broadway Nov 7.
