Grande Absente Absinthe Review
The liquor store down the road for me now carries what can be termed as a "variety" of absinthe. That is to say; Lucid, Kubler and Grande Absente. All three are priced between $50-$60. I've sampled all three and Kubler is without a doubt the best. Next would be the absinthe above - Grande Absente. Grande Absente is 69% Alc and is distilled in France. The water to absinthe ratio I used was 1:3. The color is light green. The scent from the opened bottle is that of anise and alcohol. Grande Absente louches well at this ratio. It turns a milk white with a faint green tint. The taste contains all three of the trio of required absinthe herbs - anise, fennel and wormwood. Mixed in a sweetness tempered by the slight bitterness of wormwood. All bases are covered in the flavor of this absinthe but nothing punches out or is unique. The flavors and louche may weaken at a water ratio of 1:5. Grande Absente is a good beginner absinthe and a perfect fill in should your bottles of Jade, La Bleue Clandestine or other higher quality absinthe run dry. Don't be afraid to buy it but don't expect the price to match the quality. I'd recommend Kubler ahead of this but if your looking for a verte absinthe and standing in front a limited selection, Grande Absente will do. Bookmark/Search this post with:
